The Story Before Mine
The Story Before Mine is a mobile story-driven roguelike that I released on the 10th of August 2023. It was the first full game I ever made and marked a huge step in my game development journey. I built it in Unity, which I had been using for a while, but this was the first time I managed to take something all the way to release. That process taught me a lot, both technically and creatively.
Every character in the game is based on someone I’ve met or known in real life. Some are more obvious, and others are combinations of different people or traits. I wanted the world to feel lived in and familiar, not just to the player, but to me as well. Writing and building these characters was one of the most personal parts of development, and it helped me stay connected to the project through every stage.
Getting the game finished and out there was a huge moment for me. It was the first time I had gone through the entire development cycle on my own, from concept all the way to release. There were a lot of challenges, especially balancing the roguelike systems with a strong story, but it forced me to learn quickly and solve problems I hadn’t faced before. That experience has shaped how I approach every project since.
